In February, I did Geomantic readings for the outcome of the war in Ukraine. I remember that most of us, including me, thought that Ukraine would fold up like a cheap suit in a matter of weeks. Geomancy indicated otherwise, so I put up the reading.

At this writing, ten months later, war is still being waged in Ukraine and Zelinsky is still in power there. Geomancy seems to have given some good insights on this one.

I am happier with the results of this reading than the view-from-10,000-feet mundane reading from 1 Jan 2022. Geomancy seems to do well with very specific questions.

My comments from Dec 2022 appear in blue below:

As everyone likely knows, Russia has sent troops into Ukraine, an active war at this writing. Perhaps Geomancy can give us some insight into outcomes:

Question 1: Will Russia remove Ukrainian President Zalinsky from power?

Pre-cast note - It occurs to me that if the significator in house I or house VII agrees with that in house X, (power/status/standings/politics), that can indicate who prevails in this struggle.

Mothers: Puer, Albus, Via, Puer.

House Chart:

The first thing that hits me is, 'There's a whole lot of Puer going on!'

There has certainly been a lot of warfare waged in Ukraine over the past ten months.

Querent (I) Puer. Quesited (VII) Conjunctio. Looks like denial of perfection to me.

So the short answer seems to be that Russia will not drive Zelinsky from power.

Speaking of Power;

Querent (Russia, Puer in I) does not seem to have any natural link with X (Albus).

Quesited (Zelinsky, Conjunctio VIII) Nothing really obvious, but Conjunctio and Albus are both figures of Mercury the messenger. Could be reading into it too much, but Zelinsky is wisely connecting with others and his message prevails here.

At ten months, Zelinsky seems to have gotten better acceptance of his message (‘We are being unjustly invaded’) than that of Putin (‘I am clearing out the Nazis from Ukraine’). And so far, Zelinsky has not been driven from power.

Cardines:

Beginning - Puer - Yup, Russia started a war.

Middle - Albus - Perhaps there will be a cease fire in the middle -- for a while...

End - Conjunctio - The sides meet in battle.

Aftermath - Puer - More war.

There was a very short cease-fire in March to allow Ukrainian civilians to flee, but it collapsed very quickly. For the most part, neither side is agreeing to a cease fire.

Court Story - Puer as Witness 1 and Witness 2, Judge is Populus, so lots of war, war on the people.

Fellow Reader SDI notes - Zelinsky/Conjunctio in VII is surrounded by Puella in VI (professionals, other mages) and VIII (death, spiritual entities). If he survives, it will be a close shave. Is Putin employing mages, or does Puella in VI refer to a professional woman/soldier?

Also, Putin in I has the sword of Puer, flanked by Puer in XII and Albus in II. Putin wields the sword of the Russian State, and wisdom in II suggests that he values wisdom– takes good advice perhaps? It may be that the war in Ukraine is for Putin a strategy to put NATO to the test, and perhaps break it apart. If so, the greater goal for Putin may be stress on NATO. Winning or losing Ukraine may be of secondary importance.

Also, Via in IX and Populus in XI surrounds power, so power is enveloped in transformation and the people.

Axis note -- III (local/neighborhood) and IX (long journeys/philosophy) are both Via, so a complete transformation from bottom to top, near to far..

Breaking up NATO would be such a transformation....

Puer - Sword/rash actions. in I,IV, XII, W1 and W2. XII - War can come back on those who start it as a penalty.

The Raspberry Jam Principle, writ large. Russia’s population was in decline before the start of the Ukraine war, and getting a bunch of young Russian men killed will not help their culture survive.

Question 2:

Will Russian power be increased because of the Russia-Ukraine War?

Note the parallel structures between the Mothers of Question 1 and those of Question 2--

Question 1 Mothers begin and end with Puer, Question 2's begin and end with Conjunctio.

Note that House I, X, and VII are a mirror image of Houses I, X, and VII in Question 1.

House I and House X (Conjunctio, Albus) are both figures of Mercury (messenger), so a weak confirmation?

On the other hand, Conjunctio travels to VI, so is in opposition to X, and is surrounded by Rubeus in III and V.

So that looks like denial of perfection, thus no increase in power for Russia as a result of the invasion.

Russia I Conjunctio is flanked by the sword of Puer in XII - power of the State, and the loss of Amissio in II - house of most precious things. The military power of the State will not prevent the loss of what is most precious. The same sword in XII appears in VII, the house of Russia’s enemies.

Power, House X, is occupied by Albus/wisdom, and flanked by Via in XI and Fortuna Minor in IX. Wisdom leads to power through the transformation of Russia’s hopes and dreams, and a chance success in a long slog– So there may be success here for Russia in a way they do not anticipate, possibly by the transformation of the hopes and dreams they now hold, and maybe a chance occurrence in the course of the war.

Mid (X) Albus - Peace, for a while....

End (VII) Puer - War

Aftermath (VI) Conjunctio Armies clash again, or meeting again.

Note that Houses I, IV, and VII have Puer and Conjunctio interchanged between Question 1 and Question 2, with Albus at X in both.

The charts seem to be linked, with mirrored placement of significators and some things turning up in the same houses. I am not sure of the significance, but it's interesting;

We'll have to see how this lines up with the eventual outcome of the war. Hopefully it can be short.

At ten months, the war is not nearly short enough...

At the beginning of 2022, I did a mundane reading to see what could be expected. Although 2022 is not yet over, it is probably time to review the year and see how Geomancy did.

It was a very general question, so we can expect the answers to be very general as well. The predicted war showed up in February, but not in North America. Partial and unstable economic recovery showed up, and also restrictions in the form of trade sanctions and rolling shortages of manufactured goods.

Actually at this point, I think I would settle for a Boring New Year-- It would be great to get a break from COVID gyrations, Wild Fires, Record Flooding, and the like--

What does Geomancy say about 2022, generally?

Here's the chart I cast for most of North America (Canada and the USA)-- Perhaps the chosen target is too large, but maybe its instructive anyway. We can look at it again in January 2023 and see if there were any clues to the future year 2022.

Also, I am looking for indications on promising questions to pursue that may pop up in this very general Mundane Chart;

Houses by List:

I was hoping for some obvious links between houses, as clues for future inquiries--but there are few of these.

Looking, then, at the list of houses with an eye towards a mundane reading;

I The people of Canada and USA - Fortuna Major, a difficult struggle towards success. Links with VI, the workforce. Difficult working conditions ahead this year, but we will succeed.

It was a difficult year in the beginning, but easing of COVID restrictions helped get a lot of people back to work.

II Wealth/The Economy - Puella (fickle) love - A good economy that is nonetheless not stable.

Fickle is a pretty good word to describe our economy in 2022. In North America, it’s not the depths of the Great Depression (at least, not yet) but it seems to me that there are more and more of the rolling shortages in many things that may indicate destabilization of the Global Economy.

III The neighborhood of North America - Caput Draconis - New beginnings amongst our neighbors here. Matches Court Witness 2, so a good outcome for localities

Probably a miss here, or I do not see what is significant...,

IV The lands of North America - Puer - Rash decisions, conflict, possibly war

Certainly there is a lot of conflict and disagreement among different groups of people in North America. There is much discussion of the possibility of another civil war. ‘Talking things over’ and ‘Agreeing to disagree’ is not something we seem to do very much these days...

V Perennial Crops, Weather - Acquisitio - Good and lucky perennial harvests this year. Matches Court Judge.

Looks like farmers made money this year, according to this chart:

Other Ag commentators are worried about the stability of farm exports. I don’t know enough about Agriculture to comment on it, but grasping for returns without long-term stability matches Acquisitio pretty well.

VI Employees - The workforce - Fortuna Major, see 'I' above

Labor force, working through difficulties with a lot of planning. Sounds about right.

VII Allies/Treaties/Enemies - Cauda Draconis - May mean loss of international alliances, and/or loss to enemies.

Deterioration of relations with China and Russia continues

VIII Death, Spiritual Entities - Via - Transitions, Black Swan Events. Unsure of Mundane interpretation of this house. Maybe a change in the National/Regional egregore.

Much discussion this year about gods or demons driving events

IX Long-term outlook - Laetitia - Joy; a good outlook in the long term.

X Political Standing among nations - Amissio - Loss of international status/standing.

The erosion of US credibility and status continues.

XI Annual Crops - Conjunctio - With V, looks like a good year for crops. Conjunctio may indicate positive international trade deals.

Crops yes, trade deals– not so much. The US was importing far more than it exported this year.

XII Debts/International Law/Restrictions - Tristitia - Sorrow - A year of increased restrictions.

Canadian national debt has greatly increased. This is partly due to overspending on publicly funded COVID vaccines, tests and the like, plus the usual liberal government excess. US spending and fiscal mismanagement is orders of magnitude greater than what happens in Canada. When governments increase the money supply beyond the resources available, the result is a loss of purchasing power for each dollar. Fuel prices have fluctuated wildly, and there are rolling shortages in medicines and other goods which are aggravated by trade sanctions imposed on Russia and China. Sorrow on all fronts.

Putting the pieces together--

It's a confusing picture,, but it looks like a good year for employees and localities within Canada and North America. Annual and perennial crops will be good, mostly by luck, and we will have success with international sales of our crops.

This seems to be accurate.

On the other hand, we will lose international partnerships and allies, and may possibly end the year in a war that we will lose.

Alliances are strained, and we are involved in a protracted proxy war with Russia over Ukraine. No outcome to the war yet.

X and XII seem to indicate loss of international status and restrictions.

The Court Story may indicate that those who have the wisdom to know what is happening will grasp opportunities and create a new beginning for themselves.

We definitely have had restrictions. Being wise about what is going on and creating a new beginning may just be another way to say, ‘Collapse now and avoid the rush.’
