One of the many inquiries that can be made with Geomancy is the timing of future events; When is something likely to happen? It would be most useful for an event that is certain to happen, but for which we don’t have a good idea of the timing. One such event is the date of the next slippage of the Juan de Fuca fault.

The Pacific Geological plate meets the North American Plate under the seabed in the Juan de Fuca straits. The fault line passes between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island, and continues down the coast of Washington and Oregon. The North American plate is slowly sliding under the Pacific Plate, and bunches its edge upwards very slowly. Over the past 10,000 years or so, the pressure releases between the two plates every 243 years, on average. This causes a large earthquake and tidal wave, and results in several miles of land subsiding about 6 feet lower than previously. The most recent such event occurred in January 1700, and (besides its local effects in North America) produced tidal wave that struck the shores of Japan with no warning. A very good summary of what is known can be found in an article from the New Yorker Magazine, here:

Again on average, every tenth fault slip is much larger than the usual ones. The 1700 fault slip was a large-sized fault slip. Since the next Juan de Fuca fault slip was due in 1943, and is 76 years overdue at this writing, it would be really good to have an idea of when to expect it.

It’s an ideal event for using Geomancy; For reference, I used Greer JM. The Art and Practice of Geomancy. All page numbers refer to this book.

I have so far done several readings with the following results:

1:
19 Jan 2019 Trial 1
When will the next Juan de Fuca Plate slip occur?
pg. 148--Rough estimate = “Within 5 weeks” per shield chart
Comment:
Well that will shake you up! Reading further, I saw it was possible to specify weeks, months, or years, and decided to redo the reading:

19 Jan 2019 Trial 2
How many years until the next Juan de Fuca Plate slip occurs?
pg. 149-- Rubeus—19 or 9. Total points 95. Since less than 96, time is shorter than the general estimate.
95/96 x 9 years = 8.906 years, or about 24 Aug 2027

What if it’s 19 years?
95/96 x 19 years = 18.862 years, or about 15 Dec 2037.

2:
05 July 2019
When will the next Juan de Fuca fault correction occur?
pg. 149—Rubeus again—19 or 9. Total points 95 again.
95/96 x 9 years = 8.906 years. 30 July 2028
If 19 years?
95/96 x 19 years = 18.802 years. 23 April 2038.

3:
21 July 2019
How many years until the next Juan de Fuca Plate slip?
pg. 149—Populus--seven or five. Total points =110. Since over 96, time is longer than the general estimate.
110/96 x 5 years = 5.729 years. 14 April 2025.
If 7 years?
110/96 x 7 years = 8.021 years. 29 July 2027.

Analysis--
Big Picture-- I have followed a traditional and simple method of divination that relies on random dice throws on four separate occasions. I have analyzed the results with traditional, empirical methods. Any bench mathematician would expect to get a set of results that vary widely. These results, however, have two groupings of data points that are remarkably tight, considering where they came from!
Set 1 – 14 April 2025, 29 July 2027, 24 Aug 2027, 30 July 2028. Four data points, range = 39 months.
Set 2-- 15 Dec 2037, 23 April 2038. Two data points, range 5 months.

I did analyses separated by months to confirm the scaling on the results. If Geomancy is predicting an event that is really only a few months away, the results would change dramatically with a large time gap between analyses. This was not the case, so it seems to be predicting an event within one of two narrow windows.

It would be interesting to me to review the charts of others who have asked the same question. Would they or did they get the same date range that I did?

Data sets were as follows:
